Description

FPL Sliding Door Lock / Security Foot Bolt - Easily add a secondary lock to your sliding door. Throw that make-shift broomstick away. Increase security to your home and possessions by adding this secondary sliding door deadbolt that can be easily operated without even bending down! What you will see inside is a high quality auxiliary lock that matches the finish of your door hardware and looks like it came with the door. When engaged, the sliding door foot bolt cannot be jimmied from the outside. To lock, simply press the black tipped deadbolt straight down with your foot or shoe. To unlock, easily depress the release lever and the spring loaded deadbolt retracts automatically! Another use: Use the foot deadbolt to securely vent your sliding door. Have access to fresh air without compromising your home’s security. How? Drill an additional strike hole on the bottom door sill, not more than 1 inch behind the strike hole used when the door is closed and locked. To securely vent, open the sliding door until the bolt can enter the second strike hole then press the deadbolt down. Your sliding door is now vented and entry is minimized to 1 inch. Finish-matched installation screws and instructions are included. Make this sliding door foot bolt your choice for adding security to your home.

I tried to solve the problem of locking open a sliding glass door with "doggie door" insert for a while before I found this. What I had used before was no longer available and it would have been problematic with this particular door anyway. This was a non-optimal installation situation, but I was able to use this without a hitch. Drilled into the end of the door and down through the track it rides on.The trick is of course to MEASURE, MEASURE, MEASURE before you start. And if you are unsure of what is behind the places you need to drill, drill a small hole first to check out the clearance. But as I said this was a "track" home and I was able to install it on this average "builder grade" door successfully.Locking it and unlocking it is easy.If you are doing what I did, beware of something though. When the door is locked partially open - there is a space between the two overlapping doors that is not "sealed" - which means bugs and air can go in and out. I solved this with some stickon door insulation cut to the correct size and mounted on the back side of the interior of the two doors so that it "scraped" along the outside door and sealed.Nice looking and handy sliding door extra security lock.Happy to find it in the brushed nickel finish. Also enables you to have option to have door partially open for air.Think the release lock portion (bar under the lock plunger cap) is a bit short, often have to hit area more than once.Haven't had it long enough to see how durable the finish is, hope it is.UPDATE: (Once locked) Have found if you open the foot lock first, before opening the sliding door lock, the security footlock opens easily. But footlock release lock does not release if the sliding door lock is not locked. Following this procedure, the release works smoothly, Now would give it 5 stars.Easy to install, works perfect! Glad I bought it.Very easy to install. Works great. I installed it on the upper part of the door not using as a foot pedal.Unfortunately this is for vinyl doors. I was familiar with the product because I had it on Andersen vinyl glass sliding doors and I liked it very much. So I purchased it for the new house but the doors are metal.Best little extra door lock ever. We installed on the bottom of our sliding door. My kids are a little older so no reason they can't let themselves out and it's great to be able to use your feet to do it. We also put 2 holes for the lock to go into, this way we can have the door open a few inches for ventilation and still lock it. I'm sure you could install at the top of your door too if your kids are younger and you need to prohibit them from going outside without an adult. Looks great too.We bought this as an alternative to the old "broomstick" trick for patio doors. This installed in about 15 minutes and makes me feel like our home is more secure because of it. This is also nice because if we want to have the door opened only part way but still be secure, we just open the door to a second "lock" location where we can engage this lock and "voila" problem solved - open door that is still locked! This is great and also less obtrusive than the folding bars that are sold.I installed this lock on my glass sliding door for my deck. If you have a sliding back door this product is a MUST! You would not believe how easy it is to lift the door up from the outside and just open the door. This lock pin does not allow any movements in the door and you don't have to have a door with a large rod across it like other do, or put in a hockey stick. It was very easy to install and it provide a secure means of locking up your house.
